A town renowned for its fine drink, performing arts, and revered courtesans was established as a gift to a deity. Unaware of the presence of shades—beings that mislead people—visitors flock to this place from all over the land. Sari, a woman capable of binding shades, runs the famed courtesan house known as Pale Moon. When she encounters Xixu, a newly arrived shadeslayer from the capital, strange shadows begin to awaken beneath the town.
