Tsunoyuki Tsutsumi is a fugitive in feudal Japan who takes shelter in a deserted structure, seeking peace away from conflict. His solitude is disrupted when he sees a mother killed in front of her son. He brings the child into his shelter, becoming an unwilling guardian. He resolves to live a peaceful, nonviolent life, focusing on caring for the boy, feeding stray cats, and cooking meals.
