In 1968 Tokyo, during a period of student unrest, Norio Nagayama moves to the city to leave behind a life of crime. He visits "Village Vanguard," a jazz bar frequented by student revolutionaries, where he meets actor and director Takeshi Kitano. Kitano is working on a film titled "Unlucky Young Men," which explores the struggles of a disenchanted generation determined to pursue their ambitions. To fund the production, Nagayama and Kitano decide to rob a security truck transporting 300 million yen.
