Brook is taken aback when her younger sister, Courtney, reveals her intention to marry her boyfriend, Jeff, while both are still in high school. Determined to stop what she sees as an impetuous decision, Brook seeks advice from Chase, Jeff’s older stepbrother. Instead of support, Chase hands her a $10,000 check and tells her he wants no part of the situation. Brook becomes furious, believing Chase is dismissing Courtney as someone only interested in money, and slaps him in anger.
