A young music teacher, who turned down further study in France, begins working in Osaka at a school for blind and deaf-mute students. There, he encounters Issaku, a deaf-mute boy whose violent behavior stems from an inability to communicate. The teacher seeks to help Issaku while gradually uncovering the challenges and barriers of a world shaped by silence and miscommunication.
