In 1978 Los Angeles, Roy Kovic, a well-known car racer, is arrested by the police with his daughter Mary Kovic, ten years old, dead and covered in blood. The events leading to this moment begin during a trip to King's Lynn in England, where Roy and Mary become lost in an unfamiliar cemetery. There, Mary discovers a dirty doll.
