Yatteranneeze!

Fujimoto Hiroya is a top student and vice president of the student council, admired by his peers for his academic success. Despite this, he feels unfulfilled and longs to be someone else—specifically Masaki, a popular, laid-back student who is carefree and well-liked. Masaki is the opposite of Fujimoto in many ways: he avoids studying, dresses in bold styles, and has a reputation that contrasts with Fujimoto’s. During his first year of high school, Fujimoto decides to transform his appearance and lifestyle in an effort to connect with Masaki. The story explores whether such changes can truly alter one’s identity. The work addresses serious themes such as homophobia, coming out, and HIV/AIDS, among others. It is a collaboration between novelist Koh Akizuki and mangaka Meiko Koide.
