Aya Takano is a modern artist whose work resists clear categorization within the global art scene. She blends elements of the present and future, gender, and contrasting themes of cruelty and tenderness, infused with the attitude of Japanese youth, into a fictional world called "Jelly Civilization." This setting is a sci-fi society 200 years ahead, depicted with an old-fashioned aesthetic. It functions as a sustainable utopia inhabited by androgynous beings who experience love and pleasure in a mildly perverse yet unharmed way. The environment avoids rigid structures like square devices or buildings, which Takano disliked as a child. Instead, all objects are made from a soft, jelly-like material that naturally decomposes into the soil.
