Zokugun Hijikata Toshizou

The manga focuses on Hijikata Toshizou and Ichimura Tetsunosuke, both part of the Shinsengumi, a paramilitary group loyal to the shogunate during the conflict between the emperor and the shogun. The narrative starts in 1868, the first year of the Meiji era, and takes place a year before Hijikata's death at the Battle of Hakodate in 1869. As the vice commander of the Shinsengumi, Toshizou is depicted during the time leading up to the group's downfall, the end of the shogunate, and the Meiji emperor's restoration.
