Yoko Kitajima is a shoujo mangaka who, as a senior high school student, made her debut in 1961 in <i>Shoujo Club</i> magazine.
Her title <i>Nile no Oukan</i>, published in 1963, was considered the first shoujo manga to depict a romance set in Ancient Egypt and had a major influence on works by later artists such as Keiko Takemiya's <i>Pharaoh no Haka</i> and Chieko Hosokawa's <i>Ouke no Monshou</i>.
