Anizawa Meito is a passionate manager of an Animate store, a major retailer of anime, games, and manga in Japan. Created by Shimamoto Kazuhiko for promotional use, the character was later adapted into a manga, a weekly radio drama, and an OVA animated by GAINAX under the direction of Hideaki Anno. Meito inherits the role from a previous manager who was attacked by a rival store, though that individual is still alive. Wearing a distinctive red "store manager visor," Meito is known for his enthusiasm for animation merchandise and his energetic personality.
