In 2032, advances in medical technology have led to the rise of cyborg citizens and the commercial use of androids, thanks to rapid progress in artificial intelligence. A series of murders committed by a prototype female android has brought the case to the attention of Section 9, a unit focused on cyber-terrorism. None of the victims' families have filed charges, raising questions about the androids and their manufacturing process. Since the Major remains missing, the investigation is now led by her cyborg partner, Batou, and his new biological colleague, Togusa. The two must work together despite their differences to uncover the truth behind the killings.
