The story is set in a world similar to our own, with a focus on a fictional South Seas nation called Marinera, known for its eternal spring and abundant diamond mines. The king of Marinera, Patarillo, is a young ruler with a distinctive physique. A powerful international organization seeks control of the diamond supply and sends multiple assassins to eliminate him. To protect Patarillo, MI6 assigns Major Jack Bancoran, an agent known for his irresistible charm to teenage boys, which causes Patarillo to be drawn to him despite his personal distaste for it. The narrative shifts between Marinera, MI6's London headquarters, and other locations, including glimpses of the past, future, and space.
