Shinichiro lives with his family, including Hiromi, a girl who moved in after the death of her father, a close family friend. Though cheerful and popular at school, Hiromi is reserved at home, and Shinichiro senses hidden sadness. He often paints her in watercolor, wishing he could comfort her, but avoids speaking to her directly. His efforts are complicated by teasing from a friend, a curse from a girl named Noe, and an obligation to perform traditional Muhiga dancing. While he tries to assist Noe in hopes of improving his situation, he struggles to resolve his own difficulties.
