Ikoku Nikki

A 35-year-old novelist takes in her 15-year-old niece after the girl's parents, including the novelist's older sister, die. The following day, the novelist recalls her discomfort around others. Their daily life begins, with the older woman trying to adjust to living with someone and the younger girl trying to adapt to an adult who doesn't behave like one.
