Adele, an acrobat, and Karin, a fortuneteller, live in Europe during the Protestant Reformation in 1521. To avoid accusations of witchcraft, they conceal their supernatural abilities and perform as traveling entertainers. Their goal is to earn money to purchase indulgences from the Catholic Church in hopes of absolving their sins. However, their hidden powers draw them into a larger religious conflict involving prominent families such as the Medicis and the Estes, as well as the prophecies of Girolamo Savonarola.
