Riku faced significant hardship and loss during his childhood. Following his father's death, a former-boxer Yakuza member taught him a simple punch, which he later used to protect himself from his mother's drug dealer. The encounter resulted in the dealer's death, making Riku a killer in the eyes of others. This led to ongoing threats from criminals, causing further suffering for those who tried to support him. Seeking strength to survive, Riku asked the same former boxer to train him, leading him to a dilapidated gym that became his entry into professional boxing.
