A girl named Kanoko Urabe, sixteen years old, can detect lies by hearing a metallic echo in a person’s voice. As a child, her blunt honesty led to her being shunned by the villagers, and she was eventually driven out of her home. In the 1920s, she moves to the city of Tsukumoya in search of a new life. There, she meets Souma Iwai, a talented but poor detective. After Kanoko is compelled to use her ability in front of him, he acknowledges its value and offers her a place as his assistant. Together, they establish the Iwai investigation firm, gaining recognition for solving cases through Souma’s intelligence and Kanoko’s unique skill. Through these investigations, Kanoko begins to build meaningful connections with the people she meets.
