In the early 16th century, a Ukrainian girl named Alexandra was taken during a raid by slave traders and sold in Greece. A young man named Mateus purchased her and vowed to grant her true freedom, arranging for her to be educated and refined by various teachers and court figures. She grows fond of Mateus and desires to be his concubine, but he has already pledged her to his close friend, Suleiman the Great, the Ottoman Emperor. Despite his promise of freedom, Alexandra finds herself in Suleiman’s harem, longing for Mateus from a distance.
