Higashimura debuted in the Japanese seinen manga magazine Weekly Morning. She has been nominated twice for the Manga Taishō. Her younger brother is the mangaka Takuma Morishige.
She was married to the actor Ikkan between 2004 to 2008. Then she remarried in 2013 to the fashion designer Satoshi Andou, but divorced him in 2017.
