This version includes a significant amount of new footage and approximately one thousand revised scenes not present in the original, adding 26 minutes to the runtime. Additional content explores Geostigma in greater detail, provides more background on Denzel and Kadaj, and features a longer battle between Cloud and Sephiroth. The Japanese edition includes a new ending track by Kyosuke Himuro titled "Safe and Sound," with lyrics contributed by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, replacing the original track "Calling." However, the North American release retains "Calling" and omits "Safe and Sound."
