Elite members of Shuchiin Academy's student council engage in daily rivalries and antics. The president, Miyuki Shirogane, and vice-president Kaguya Shinomiya constantly compete, trying to force each other into a romantic confession. Kaguya faces pressure from her strict, affluent family while gradually softening her reserved nature around Shirogane and friends. Treasurer Yuu Ishigami deals with his unrequited feelings for upperclassman Tsubame Koyasu, who helps him gain self-assurance. New council member Miko Iino bonds with the rebellious Ishigami, challenging her rigid moral views. As relationships develop, the council members involve their non-council friends in escalating, humorous situations.
