In a Japan overrun by Kaiju, Kafka Hibino works in monster disposal. After reconnecting with Mina Ashiro, a promising member of the anti-Kaiju Defense Force, he decides to pursue his long-held goal of joining the Force. However, Kafka unexpectedly transforms into the powerful "Kaiju No. 8." With the assistance of his junior coworker Reno Ichikawa, he conceals his new identity while working toward his dream of passing the Defense Force exam and standing beside Mina. When an intelligent Kaiju attacks a Defense Force base, Kafka must make a difficult choice in a high-stakes scenario.
