Humanity has expanded into space, with large populations residing in massive orbital colonies known as "Sides." The governing Earth Government is oppressive and tyrannical. In response, a faction of rebels constructs five advanced mecha units named Gundams, intending to deploy them to Earth to challenge the regime. Five young male pilots are chosen to operate the Gundams, which symbolize the aspirations of the colonies for liberation. They launch Operation Meteor, initiating their mission from space to Earth.
