Gai a été élevé par un forgeron du nom d'Amon, après avoir été découvert près d'une femme morte dans une forêt. Il devient l'apprenti d'Amon et, en forgeant une épée, perd son bras droit. Amon utilise les restes d'une épée démoniaque appelée Shiryuu pour lui créer un bras de remplacement. Ce nouveau membre permet à Gai de s'enfusionner et d'affronter ses adversaires en combat.
