Kinokoinu

A picture book author mourns the loss of his dog, Hanako, and is consumed by sorrow. One day, he discovers a pink mushroom in his garden that moves and behaves like a dog. Despite his confusion, he takes it in, naming it Kinokoinu. The creature causes chaos by drawing inappropriately, eating snacks, and making messes, yet its lively nature is endearing. Interactions with the author's childhood friend, an editor, and a researcher from the Mushroom Research Institute unfold as he spends time with Kinokoinu. Over time, the author's demeanor shifts as he experiences amusing and slightly enigmatic days with those around him and the peculiar Kinokoinu.
