In 1907, in Kyoto's Fushimi district, 15-year-old Inako Momokawa is the second daughter of a sake brewer. She struggles with daily criticism from her father and finds solace in prayer. During a visit to Fushimi Inari shrine, she meets Kihachi Sakamoto, a young man who dismisses the gods and embraces the future of electricity. As her father arranges a marriage without her input, Inako considers fleeing. Kihachi encourages her to act, revealing the need to locate the "Electricity Catalog," a book Kihachi authored as a child that Seiroku, his older brother, later took. The book's location is unknown, prompting Inako and Kihachi to search for it in Kyoto and Shiga prefectures.
