In 19th-century China during the Qing Dynasty, a time of political instability and a fictional period known as the "Era of the Cooking Wars," chefs of high rank compete to be the best in the country. The era is marked by strict laws regarding culinary practices, where insulting a top chef or misrepresenting one's skills can lead to severe consequences. After the death of his mother, known as the 'Fairy of Cuisine,' Mao seeks to become a Super Chef and eventually take over his mother's restaurant as its Master Chef. Before doing so, he travels across China to learn various cooking techniques and aims to become a legendary chef like his mother. Along the way, he encounters allies and competitors who challenge him in the culinary arts.
