Iwao Washizu

A wealthy old man and one of the most powerful people in Japan, thanks to shady dealings and consultations he performed in Japan's post-war period. Now, fearful of his encroaching death, he uses his money to tempt people - especially young men - to bet their lives on the chance to win a large amount of money. They do this in the form of Washizu Mahjong, in which translucent glass tiles replace most of the original tiles, leading to a much more psychological game based around bluffing and manipulating your opponent. Washizu is in possession of a tremendous supply of luck, something that, along with his cunning, resourceful, and stubborn nature, makes him a worthy opponent for Akagi, who is sent in to defeat and bankrupt him in one final game of Washizu Mahjong.
