Doctor Yokoto Ōwada of the Beika Central Hospital claims to have won third place in a hospital raffle, marking his third victory that week. Conan notices the prize, a year's supply of beer, is impossible because the draw has not occurred. The Detective Boys discover a tall, slender woman impersonating the doctor's wife orchestrated the fake wins. They trace the rumors to Akiko Shiina, who admits to fabricating the stories. Conan sends the children home to avoid danger, but returns at night to prevent Akiko from murdering Doctor Ōwada.
