After graduating from Yoyogi Animation Academy, Kon interned at Studio Pierrot, under anime director Jun Kamiya. There she would provide production assistance for Neo Ranga.

Kon has a reputation for being a resourceful director, often using the least amount of frames with the maximum emotional impact. Her first directorial work, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni earned her praise for her ability to create suspense.
