A cyber battle sci-fi. In 2022, quantum computing has advanced significantly, allowing many to transfer their consciousness into cyberspace. Shiki, the sister-in-law of Remu, skipped grades and enrolled in a high school on the academic city of Okinotori-island Mega Float City at age 14. She told her brother via Skype that she was communicating from cyberspace, with her physical body preserved in a water tank filled with a culture medium known as a "Body Pool." Shiki connected to the network using nanomachines in her brain. Remu accepted her choice until an incident called "Early Rupture" occurred, causing the network server to overload and leaving users' minds trapped in cyberspace while their bodies remained in the Body Pools. To recover Shiki's mind, Remu goes to her apartment in the city, where he encounters a girl claiming to have taken over Shiki's body. As he investigates, a violent attack occurs at the apartment.
