Makkuro na Obentou

On August 6, 1945, a young boy named Shigeru left home for work carrying a lunch prepared by his mother. He did not return after the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. His mother later found his remains and a bento box that had turned entirely black and carbonized. The story is based on the book *Makkuro na Obentou* by Kodama Tatsuharu, with illustrations by Kitajima Shinpei. The actual bento box is displayed at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
