Yusuke Urameshi dies while attempting to rescue a child and awakens in the Spirit World. His name is absent from the Book of Enma, indicating a mistake, and he is given a chance to return to life if he passes certain trials. He becomes a spirit detective working for Koenma, the ruler's son. During his summer break, Koenma is kidnapped, forcing Yusuke to abandon his vacation. He must locate Koenma and retrieve the Golden Seal of King Enma to secure his release. If the seal falls into the wrong hands, it could cause chaos in the Spirit World. Yusuke enlists his allies to travel to Magma Valley in search of Koenma and to uncover the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
