After an emperor kills the python, a water deity, a curse is placed on the Cha Kingdom, preventing men from inheriting the throne. This leads to a succession of female rulers and ongoing conflict with men attempting to seize power. After Yom kills the empress's sisters, she becomes empress. Instead of ruling, she indulges in drinking and sleeping with men, whom she executes afterward. Known as the Blood Empress, she is recognized for her violent actions and red hair dyed with the blood of her victims. She encounters a man named Kanghee, who, despite her intent to kill him, persuades her to spare his life. Through stories from books, he begins to influence her, leading her to question her violent behavior. As their relationship deepens, she wonders if she can trust him.
