Gaku: Minna no Yama

Shimazaki Sanpo is a volunteer in mountain rescue and an experienced climber who has reached the summits of the world. He is familiar with the challenges, pleasures, and beauty of climbing. In Japan’s Northern Alps, where he resides, many climbers travel along mountain paths aiming to reach the peaks. As they descend and return to their daily lives, Sanpo offers encouragement with remarks such as “You really hung in there!” and “Make sure you come again!” The work has received recognition, winning the Manga Award in 2008 and the 54th Shougakukan Manga Award.
