Gallery Fake

A small art gallery called Gallery Fake is located on a wharf in Tokyo Bay. Its owner, Fujita Reiji, was previously a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, known for his exceptional memory, artistic sensitivity, language skills, and painting restoration abilities. He left the museum due to workplace issues and now runs a gallery where he sells both genuine and counterfeit artworks at high prices. Fujita believes that lacking an aesthetic sense can lead to being deceived, and through such experiences, people may learn to recognize authentic art. He is not solely motivated by profit; he values art and the dedication of artists. He occasionally acquires paintings from corrupt politicians who treat art as a tool for bribery and sometimes works to restore damaged artworks. Fujita often influences the people he meets, drawing them to him despite his reserved nature. The manga received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996.
