Mariko Kumakura is an academically gifted high school student who is socially isolated and often eats lunch alone. Akko Oohashi, a confident and attractive classmate, seeks to befriend her and help her become more outgoing and socially accepted. As Akko works to change Mariko, emotions develop that hint at a connection beyond friendship.
