Retreats

In a future where the Retreats offer a life of comfort and plenty, this prosperity is maintained by a poor underclass living in the slums of Brine. These individuals either serve the Retreats' residents or risk their lives in the Battlegrounds, hoping to gain citizenship. John Canty, a Brine resident, has long given up on the idea of escaping his circumstances, especially after his father and grandfather perished in the Battlegrounds. His perspective shifts when he is hired for a job that takes him into the Retreats, where he meets Edward, a boy who bears an uncanny resemblance to his son, Gable.
