A retelling of the 16th-century Chinese fantasy classic *Journey To The West*, this adaptation by Katsuya Terada reimagines the legend of the Monkey King as a bold and unrestrained tale. Described as "a Buddhist version of Conan the Barbarian" by The Portland Tribune, the story centers on a powerful and unruly monkey who once caused chaos in ancient China until the Lord Buddha imprisoned him under a mountain. Now released under strict conditions, the Monkey King is tasked with accompanying a Buddhist nun on a perilous journey across the demon-infested regions of the Silk Road. Their mission: to reach India and retrieve a set of sacred scrolls.
