Shakugan no Shana

A high school student named Yuji Sakai is informed by a mysterious girl that he died and has since become a "Torch," a temporary substitute for someone erased from existence. Torches eventually disappear, along with all memories of them. Yuji remains calm and forms a bond with the girl, whom he names Shana after her sword. Shana aims to protect Yuji from the Denizens, who seek to exploit his unique Torch ability to upset the world's balance. Yuji chooses to support Shana in her efforts.
