Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu

Tsuwabaki Daiya discovers a black fire in the ocean while on a boat with his father and crew. A massive monster emerges, causing the father and others to vanish into the sea. Just as Daiya faces danger, a large mecha dragon rescues him. Five years later, now a junior high student, Daiya encounters the same monster and reunites with the mecha dragon, Daiku Maryu. The dragon's head detaches, transforming into a super robot named Gaiking. Daiya pilots Gaiking, defeats the monster, and learns of a global conquest plot. He travels to another world, Darius, to stop it.
