Hidamari no Ki
陽だまりの樹
In 1855, during the Bakumatsu period in Japan's Hill of the Three Hundred district, Ibuya Manjiro, a 26-year-old samurai and low-ranking retainer to Lord Matsudaira, begins his career. At the same time, Tezuka Ryoan, a 29-year-old student of Dutch medicine, is admitted to Teki Academy in Osaka. Both men possess strong tempers and notable abilities. Amid the era's growing unrest, their paths cross due to repeated conflicts. One night, Tezuka treats Ibuya after an illegal duel. A few weeks later, Ibuya confronts a group of swordsmen sent by the Shogunate's chief medical officer to attack Tezuka. The manga received the Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga in 1984.
