Tenants in company-owned rabbit-hutch apartments struggle to make ends meet, including high school student Hatsumi Narita, who lives under the strict rule of Mrs. Tachibana, a self-righteous neighbor known for spreading rumors. Mrs. Tachibana's son, Ryoki, who once bullied Hatsumi, threatens to expose a personal secret—linked to a pregnancy test she purchased for her sister—unless she agrees to be his servant. Just as tensions rise, Azusa, a childhood friend and former protector, returns to the neighborhood and moves back in. A growing bond forms between Hatsumi and Azusa, but Ryoki continues to hold power over her due to the sensitive information he possesses, refusing to forget the terms of their agreement.
