A girl named Mayumi, who lost her parents in a car accident, struggles with intense grief and wishes to stop feeling emotions entirely. Five years later, her 18-year-old sister becomes the first victim in a string of strange incidents where individuals receive text messages specifying a body part, which is then removed painlessly and without blood. The messages originate from the phone of Kanno, the sister's ex-boyfriend, making him the prime suspect. Mayumi, who sees Kanno as an older brother, refuses to believe he is responsible and decides to uncover the truth. Her investigation connects the crimes to Kanno's ex-girlfriend, who died by suicide on Christmas Day five years prior, and to an advanced artificial intelligence Kanno was developing, which he has since abandoned.
