Sara becomes acquainted with Thomas Carrisford, and Becky suffers the Headmistress's wrath until Lavinia reveals Sara's whereabouts. The Headmistress decides to retrieve Sara, by force if necessary. Solicitor Carmichael has prepared the legal paperwork to establish Sara as heiress of the diamond mines.
