Having been brought to the Republic of Venedik by Capitan Brega, Mahmut is granted an audience with the Doge Lucio. Mahmut asks the Doge's reasons for betraying his alliance with Phoinike. However, Lucio answers that Venedik had not violated the terms of their alliance.
