Yuko and Tosuke return to Yanaka after spending a year in Beijing, where Tosuke acquired a rare celadon porcelain from Thailand. Yuko estimates its worth at 30 million yen, sparking a reaction. Yuko's father, overjoyed by her return, drinks excessively and falls from the second floor, requiring hospitalization. During her husband's absence, Yuko's cousin Tetsuya leaves home and moves in with them. Seeking money, Tetsuya sells the porcelain for 30,000 yen, unaware of its true value.
