Seolsuk is the daughter of a minor provincial worker and works as a messenger girl for Lady Wi, the wife of a local noble. Lady Wi suggests that Seolsuk become the concubine of her adopted son Jinhyo. Seolsuk is delighted, as she has loved Jinhyo since childhood. However, she later discovers that Jinhyo is already in love with Pilnam, another childhood friend, which makes her reconsider her feelings. At the same time, Seolsuk is chosen as a "Gifted Maiden," a title given to potential candidates for the imperial harem. The story follows her struggles as she navigates palace life and the uncertainty of her romantic future.
