Yu Songnian and Shen Shu have a relationship filled with mutual affection, yet neither is able to fully return the other's feelings. During a conversation, Yu questions whether marriage should be based on personal emotions, which surprises Shen Shu, who assumes that most people in their social circle enter into marriages driven by business considerations. Shen sees their relationship as a transactional arrangement. However, beneath this perception, he feels a sense of responsibility, as if he has taken in a neglected puppy, intending to care for and transform him into someone refined and beautiful.
